Serena game against Newark 1-0,
Newark loses
Earlville game against Newark 3-1,
Newark loses
DePue game against Newark 2-1,
Newark wins

The Newark Norsemen attended the Earlville tournament on Saturday. The Norsemen’s first opponent was the Serena Huskers. The first half of the game was even. Both Newark and Serena had attempts on goal but couldn’t finish. The first half ended scoreless.

Serena gained more ball control in the second half, but the Newark Norsemen defense stayed tough. With ten minutes left in the second half the Norsemen committed an unnecessary foul. The Huskers took advantage of that play and ended up scoring. The Norsemen gave it their all in the last ten minutes but couldn’t score. With one minute left the Norsemen had a wide-open shot to tie the game but it was deflected and the Norsemen took the loss.

The second game was against Earlville-Leland. Leland came out strong in the first half and was able to score 3 goals against the Norsemen.

In the second half Leland had more control of the ball, but wasn’t able to score. Newark had one breakaway and sophomore Kyle Tuggle was able to score with assist from Juan Elizalde. The Newark defense had an outstanding second half as they didn’t let Leland score the entire second half. The final score was 3-1 Leland.

The last game of the tournament was against DePue. The Norsemen went out strong and were able to take the lead ten minutes into the game goal scored by Joe Hughes. Then the game became very even and DePue was able to tie up the game. The first half ended with a tie 1-1.

The second half was an offensive game for the Norsemen. Newark had more control of the ball. Joe Hughes got the ball in the top of the eighteen and was able to score his second goal of the game. With six minutes left in the game a penalty kick was given in favor of Newark. The Norsemen took it but failed to score. The final score was 2-1 Newark. With that win the Newark Norsemen were placed 3rd in the tournament.

The Norsemen’s next game in on Tuesday at IMSA. Good luck Norsemen!!
