Tournament Champions!

Congratulations to the Lady Norsemen Basketball Team for placing 1st at the 2008 Lisle Christmas Tournament! The Lady Norsemen defeated the Lady Coalers 53-31 to earn the 2008 Tournament title.

Laura Johnson led the way with 21 points while Sam Akre added 11 points and Lauren McNanna added 10 points. The Lady Norsemen jumped out to a 17-2 first quarter lead and they led 32-9 at halftime. In the second half, they kept up the defensive intensity and Coal City turned the ball over.

Congratulations to the Lady Norsemen for their tournament championship and also congrats to Lauren McNanna on her selection to the All-Tournament Team, and to Laura Johnson on being named Tournament Most Valuable Player!

Lady Norsemen Advance to Championship Game

Date: 12/29/08
Location: Lisle Tourney vs. St. Edwards
Result: Won 66-60

Laura Johnson led the way with 26 points while Lauren McNanna added 17 points. Sam Akre also added 8 points in the big victory. The Lady Norsemen trailed 31-24 at halftime, but came out focused in the second half. The Lady Norsemen's press bothered St. Edwards as they started to commit turnovers. Newark's defense really buckled down late in the game to secure the six point victory. Their next game is tonight, December 30 at Lisle vs. Coal City at 8 pm for the championship.

Lady Norsemen Advance to Semi-Finals

Date: 12/27/08
Location: Lisle Tourney vs. Iliana Christian
Result: Won 50-39

Laura Johnson led the way with 22 points and Lauren McNanna added 16 points. The Lady Norsemen led 25-19 at halftime and extended the lead to as many as 16 points in the second half. They have now advanced to the semi-finals on Monday, December 29 vs. the winner of Latin and St. Edward.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Laura J. on being named to the Ottawa Times Volleyball First Team! Laura set records in season and career assists, and was an integral part of the Lady Norsemen's 32-3 season.

Congratulations to Sam E. on being named to the Times second team for her record breaking number of digs during the 2008-2009 season.

2008 Times Volleyball Player of the Year

Congratulations to Sam Akre on being chosen The Times 2008 Volleyball Player of the Year! Sam Akre set many NCHS Lady Norsemen records including career kills, kills in a season, blocks and aces. Read about her accomplishment in the Ottawa Times.

In addition to being honored with the player of the year title, Sam was also named to the Times All-Area Volleyball First Team. Read more about First Team in the Ottawa Times.

Newark has been lucky to have such an accomplished player for the past four years as part of one of the finest Lady Norsemen Volleyball Teams in the school's history. If you see her in the hallway, be sure to congratulate her on being named Player of the Year and a great season.

Congratulations to Nick Slack and and Mike Larson on being named to the Little-Ten All-Conference Soccer team on Tuesday. Nick and Mike were both awarded for offensive and defensive play this season. Way to go Norsemen!

Congratulations to the Volleyball team for a successful season

The Lady Norsemen ended their season on Tuesday, November 4th, against Dwight during the Somonauk Sectional Semi-Final round.

The Lady Norsemen had many season highlights including a Regional Championship, Little Ten Conference Tournament Title, First Place at both the Eureka and Iroquois West Tournaments, Third Place at the Seneca Tournament, and a new school-record for season wins. The Lady Norsemen put an unbelievable 32-3 overall season record and 8-0 conference record into the record book.

Additional highlights include Sam Akre breaking the career kills record with over 557 kills; 357 for the season, and Laura Johnson passing the 1,500 mark for assists in her career; 692 for the season.

The team will greatly miss our senior Outside Hitter Sam Akre, Setter Laura Johnson, and Outside & Right Side Hitter Meredith Sleezer during the 2009 Volleyball Season.

Congratulations girls and good luck in your future!

Congratulations to the Newark Lady Norsemen volleyball team (32-2) for your regional victory on Saturday against the Somonauk Lady Bobcats. The Lady Norsemen have now advanced to Sectional Semifinals to be held at Somonauk Tuesday, November 4th at 6:00p.m. vs. Dwight.

Lady Norsemen Place 1st in Weekend Tournaments

Result: First Place in both Tournaments

Congratulations to the JV and Varsity Volleyball Teams for winning their tournaments over the weekend. JV took 1st Place in there Conference Tournament and Varsity took First Place at Eureka. The Lady Norsemen finished the regular season with a record of 30-2, and will now begin regional playoffs at Serena High School Wednesday at 7 p.m. Best of luck Lady Norsemen in postseason!

Lady Norsemen Place 1st at JV Tournament

Congratulations to the Lady Norsemen JV Volleyball Team for placing 1st at the 2008 Putnam Sophomore Invitational on Saturday! Way to go!

Congratulations on a Successful Season!

Congratulations to the Newark soccer team on a very successful season. The Norsemen finished 11-10-1 under new coach Bill Suhayda.

The team accomplished a lot this season and made many memories along the way. Some of this season's highlights include Cody Borneman and Mike Larson's first high school goals. Kurt Anderson and Noel Cabadas both scored 11 goals for the Norsemen. Levy Soares scored his first American goal. Angel Torres-Larson also had many timely goals and assists. Tyler Andersen, our new goal keeper, had many outstanding saves. Other honorable mentions include Nick Slack for pumping up the team before each game, and Juan Elizade and Zeke Schmidt for their contributions to the team.

Finally, our most memorable moment of the season was winning the third place trophy at the conference tournament against Somonauk. This trophy was the first ever won for Newark soccer.

Congratulations Norsemen, and best of luck next season!

Lady Norsemen Win; Records Broken

Congratulations to the Lady Norsemen Volleyball Team for their conference win last night against the Serena Lady Huskers. The Lady Norsemen now have a season record of 24-2 and a record of 7-0 in conference.

Last night, Sam Akre broke the career kills record and now has 557 kills (previous record was by Ali Schultz with 543).

Laura Johnson passed the 1,500 mark for assists in her career last night. She already held the career record, but passed this big milestone last night.

Congratulations Lady Norsemen, keep up the good work!

Little Ten Conference Champs!

Congratulations to the Lady Norsemen Volleyball Team for placing 1st at the 2008 Little Ten Conference Tournament Friday night! The Lady Norsemen took on #2 seeded Somonauk Lady Bobcats and finished with a win in two games with scores of 25-14, 25-22. Read about the game in the Ottawa Times. Way to go!

Coming off of a disappointing loss to Hinckley, the Norsemen soccer team looked to rebound with vengeance. That is just what they did this past Saturday with an upset win over Somonauk in the third place game. The Norsemen made school history by winning the first piece of hardware for Newark soccer. This was also the first victory over Somonauk in years. In the game, Noel Cabadas and Kurt Anderson both scored goals with some pretty nifty maneuvers. The defense in the game was also superb. "Everybody gave it their all, and we were rewarded with a win" said Aaron Mathre of the Norsemen soccer team. Read about the game in the Ottawa Times. (bottom of page)
