Congratulations to the 2009 Lady Norsemen softball team on their great season!
The softball team had a very unusual end to their season. On Tuesday, May 19th, Newark had its first regional game vs. Serena. In the top of the third inning, Serena scored four runs. Newark answered in the same inning. With two outs, Teresa DiClementi was walked. Kirstie Anderson hit a double to bring DiClementi home. Lea Dunlap stepped up and hit an over-the-fence home run. This would conclude the Norsemen's scoring effort. Serena won 8-3 in an upset.
On May 21st, Newark took the field in a make up double header vs. LaMoille. Taylor Rehberg and Christy Pope had in-the-park home runs. Lea Dunlap, Tara Bernard, Miranda Schmidt, and Kirstie Anderson also boosted the score to win 15-1. This secured the Little Ten Conference Title. The team ended the second game with a loss of 3-0.
The 2009 Lady Norsemen had many season accomplishments including Little Ten Conference Champions, and a 19-14-1 record.
Additional highlights included the selection of Lea Dunlap, Tara Bernard and Miranda Schmidt to All Conference. Lea Dunlap was honored by a unanimous selection.
Seniors Jackie Anderson, Lea Dunlap, Rebecca Hughes, Christy Pope, Trisha Pope, and Meghan Putty will all be missed by the team next year! We wish them luck in the future!
