Boy's Basketball and Cheerleading: CHANGE!!!

The Boy's Basketball and cheerleading meeting format has changed. All boy's basketball players and cheerleaders may turn in athletic fees, and all paperwork to Mrs. Navarro during SRT, before or after school this week. All required forms are in Mrs. Navarro's room and athletes can pick them up from her. Physicals can be dropped off to Mrs. Navarro. Game and practice schedules are also available from Mrs. Navarro. Mrs. Navarro will be here at the school from 5:30-6:15pm on Thursday night to collect forms if anyone cannot get them in during the day. REMINDER: All paperwork and fees must be in by Friday November 4 in order to practice on Monday. Any questions please see Mrs. Navarro.

Congratulations, Coach Nagel, Coach McKinney and the Lady Norsemen on an outstanding volleyball season. We are proud of the way you represented NCHS on and off the court the entire season.

Congratulations to the Newark Lady Norsemen on a Successful Season

The Lady Norsemen Volleyball team's season came to a close on Thursday, Oct 27, in the Woodland Class 1A Volleyball Regional Championship match. Second seed Woodland Warriors defeated the Lady Norsemen with a score of 22-25, 25-23 and 16-25.

Season highlights included the 2011 Regular Season LTC Title and 4th Place at both the IMSA and Stillman Valley Invitationals. The Lady Norsemen put a perfect 8-0 conference record and 25-10 overall into the record book.

The team will greatly miss our seniors- Ashley Edwards, Sammi Eddy, Kaitlin Zitt, Alexis Waters and Hannah Riehle-Moeller during the 2012 Volleyball Season. Congratulations girls and good luck in your future!

Girl's Basketball

Attention Girl's Basketball players: Meeting for all parents and players will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the student center. At this time physicals, athletic codes, steroid form, and fees will be collected. Any questions please see Mr. Skelton, Mr. Holman or Mrs. Navarro.

Little 10 Conference Champions

Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team for winning the Little 10 Conference Tournament on Friday night! The team beat Hinkley-Big Rock in the championship match. Come out this Thursday night to the LAST HOME GAME and Senior Night as the varsity team will again take on H-BR for the regular season conference championship!

Soccer

As Newark Norsemen start the 2011-2012 soccer season, they are looking forward to a successful year. Even though they have lost eight games and won only one game, they beat Serena on September 7th with the score of 3-2. At the end of the game, Wyatt Williamson helped us with the game during the shoot-out with his outstanding goal keeping skills.

I took some time to interview some of the players on the team. According to Kenny Kratzer the rest of the season will be “interesting.” He also stated that this season has been a learning experience. He feels that to improve himself, he needs to “work on his ball handling skills.” His favorite thing about soccer is playing a scrimmage in practice. I also interviewed Bailey Andersen, who said he has been playing soccer for six years. Bailey’s favorite thing is to run during games.

During my interview with Coach Grubb, I learned he has been coaching soccer for two years now. Coach explained that this year has been good. “We have a lot of potential on improving our games; unfortunately we have only won one game so far. He expresses that the team is doing something different this year. “They are focusing more on technical skills such as passing, ball handling, positioning, and communication.” The last question I asked him which was his favorite team to play against? He pointed out that Serena has been Newark’s equal. He also said another good challenge was Paw Paw.

Golf

The golf team played their first match on August 25th where they encountered Aurora Christian’s Crusaders. The golf team has been reinstated this year at Newark, and 15 people have joined the team. The team consists of four seniors: Max Bisallion, Colton Brummel, Casey Jeka and Taylor Wright. Juniors did not choose this team, but six sophmores did: Kara Brummel, Dakota Boon, Nick Gerken, Nick Minarich, Conner Rennick and Jayson Shirley. Five freshmen complete the golf team; they include Noah Boon, Austin Dike, Cole Krug, Karter Kunkel and Zach Ward. Senior Maxwell Bisallion considers himself an average golfer, and his favorite thing about the sport is the serenity of it. When Maxwell was asked, “What was the main reason you joined this team?” he responded, “I joined because golf is an amazing sport. It is both relaxing and thrilling at the same time!” Even though they haven’t won a match yet, the team still has spirit, and its members are working hard to change that and having fun doing it with Coach Hissong encouraging them.

Lady Norsemen Volleyball

Fall not only brings a new school year, but a new volleyball season. This year started very similarly to other recent years with high aspirations of going deep into the playoffs. Even though in the last two years the team hasn’t gotten as far as they had expected, we are hoping for a different outcome this season.

The players and coaches aren’t the only ones excited for this season, so are the community and the student body. The students can show their school spirit, NCHS has a “kill club;” it’s a very fun way to show off school spirit, be able to watch the volleyball game at the same time and encourage the players of the Newark Lady Norsemen!
