Four!

The golf team was on a four-game win streak
before losing to Reed Custer September 4, by a couple strokes. The next meet for the Norsemen was a tri-meet with Indian Creek and Harvest Christian. Despite Karter Kunkel’s 37, a school tying record, and Tyler Kaufman’s 42 in the tri- meet, Indian Creek ended with a 164, the Norsemen got a 177, and Harvest Christian got a 210.
On September 15, the Norsemen participated in the Ottawa invite. The meet was supposed to be 18 holes, but with the rain it turned into a 9- hole meet. When we asked Coach Hissong about how he felt about how the team played at Ottawa he replied, “With the rain and the cold weather being a factor, we played overall decent. There were scores that came in, that were possible, we just needed to adjust.” The Norsemen came in with a 196 and finished in 9th place.
On September 15, the Norsemen played against Putnam County in a match. The Norsemen got a 192 and Putnam had a 195. The Norsemen pulled through to beat Putnam in an away match. Next up for the Norsemen was a meet against Wilmington and IMSA on September 18 at home. The Norsemen swept through that tri-meet with Cam Myre bringing in a 40, Karter Kunkel and Zach Ward with 43’s, and Seth Larson with a 46. The total score was a 172, which is the lowest score of this year for the Norsemen!
The Norsemen participated in the Little Ten Conference tournament that was at Orchard Valley Golf Course. The Norsemen as a team finished 2nd, right behind Indian Creek by 5 strokes. Cam Myre came in with 2nd overall score with an 83 on 18 holes, Zach Ward came in with a 87, Seth Larson with an 88, and Karter Kunkel with a 93. “With scores like these, we will definitely be a competitor in regionals,” stated by Coach Hissong. The Norsemen have the Dwight invite and a meet with Hinckley and Earlville in the end of September. In October, they will compete in regionals. Good Luck Golfers!
